Superbowl Time/ Rant

Well everyone, its that time of year again. Its the time when football comes to an end and we are left to wait a month for spring training to begin. Well was it me, or did the playoffs just suck this year. There was one good game. And still the curse of Favre continues. It has gotten to the point now, where you ask yourself, not if, but when is he gonna make the mistake that costs his team. He did it against Philly a couple years ago and low and behold he did it this year. He had a phenomenal season dont get me wrong, and for those of you who know me, thats hard for me to admit, but it never fails. It never fails the same way it never fails that we have to hear every single day that Tom Brady is the greatest QB ever. Usually the main argument to this is the fact that he has won 3 superbowls. Well ladi freakin da. Funny I thought football was the only true team sport, it takes a team to win a superbowl. By that definition Trent Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Mark Rypien and Jeff Hostettler are better QBs then Dan Marino and Jim Kelly. I mean please people lets use some common sense here. Tom Brady walked into a great position, he had no pressure and his team had a great defense. Im sorry but that isnt the same as being drafted number 1 like John Elway and Peyton Manning and having your team be a contender every year. Lets use this argument for other sports. Now we are calling Jud Buchler a better basketball player then Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller, and we are calling Brian Banks a better baseball player then Barry Bonds. I know what your thinking who the hell is Jud Buchler and Brian Banks? This just proves my point ever more. If we are going to judge how good of a player someone is lets do it on something else. MVPs, stats, not championships. Oh ya and sorry Tom, Peyton has more MVPs then you, you had to have an all star team to get yours.

SC Rules!!!

I think that the one thing that we can take away from the New Years day bowl games is that the two best teams in the country have already played, it wasn't against each other, and it wasn't for the national championship. Someone please help the BCS mess.

I'm back.

Ok friends, I'm back. First of all, let me say sorry for the long lay off. School was a drag and I kinda had to put other stuff before writing my blog, but I realized that was a mistake. I'll do my little year in review thing for the 5 of you who actually read this. Today was the end of the NFL regular season. It was another disappointing year for all of us. The Cardinals blew it again this year, although I did like some of the strides they made with the new coaching staff. The Patriots are terrible for football, and its up to either Peyton or L. T. to save the world. Once again the BCS has given us a game that we could care less about. My National Championship is the Hawaii, Georgia game. Colt and the boys really did it, they just have one more to go.

Here are some thoughts heading into 2008. Good luck to anyone trying to make a movie as funny as Superbad. I hope that the San Antonio Sterns dont find a way to win another title. Cards, it's finally our year, right? Matty I hope you show us all what we know you can do and make this state a believer.

Everyone, Sorry that I took 4 months off, it will never happen again. Make sure you continue reading and responding, and I will keep writing. Feel free to comment on your 2007. Late.

Its About Time!!!

Finally, the Dbacks have wised up and signed Eric Byrnes to a contract extension. The deal was for $30 million over 3 years. We probably should have gave him more years and more money, but I guess just having Byrnes for 3 more years is what is important. Unlike most people who have never heard of Byrnes until the last couple of years, I have been a fan of his for a long time going back to the Oakland days. The thing that bothered me the most during this whole ordeal, which looked like it would never get done, was the fact that people said he didnt deserve the money and he was only a career .270 hitter. I wonder if these are the same people who begging and pleading that the Dbacks keep 37 year old .280 career hitter Luis Gonzalez. Luis Gonzalez was making $10 million a year and is at the end of his career, yet people(Im not one of them) wanted the Dbacks to keep him just because he was a fan favorite and because what he had done that one steroid induced season. So let me get this straight Dback fans, you would rather keep a guy who is 37 and no longer effective and severely overpaid, but you dont want to keep a guy who is 31 and since being an everyday player the last two years has lead the Dbacks in almost every offensive category? No wonder Phoenix is a horrible sports city, the people who actually go and watch the games are idiots, and us who actually know something about sports are the minority.

Jon Lester

In today's sports world we are blessed with varrying degrees of individuals. I say individuals because we rarely see any body today who is a true team player. Maybe a Peyton Manning, and that is only the fact because he said he would give up some of his salary to keep the team in tact, but even that is misconstrued because he easily would make that money up from endorsement deals( CUT THAT MEAT!). In a sports world full of liars, cheaters, wrong doers, horrible people, and dog murderers its really good to see an exceptional story every now and then. I think Jon Lester's story is one of those. About a year ago he was diagnosed with cancer, he's 23, and had to take time off during what was a very impressive rookie season. He is the only left handed starter on the Red Sox in like a hundred years or something, and it was just sad to see something happen to someone with such a promising career ahead. Jon Lester didnt give up, he didnt quit, he never said I cant do it. He quietly worked himself back making sure not to over work himself and made sure he was 100%. Now we are here July 23, 2007 and he is back. Jon Lester will make his first start tonight in almost a year. Regardless if he pitches a complete game or 3 pitches, if he gets a win, a loss, or a no decision, Jon Lester has already won. He has won not just because he has beaten cancer, but because he never gave up and knew one day he would be back. Thank you Jon Lester, you are my hero!

Vick

Ok so the Atlanta Falcons now get the distinction of being the dumbest sports franchise in American sports. Not only did they trade away the best QB on their roster(Matt Schaub) but now the guy who they wanted to build around and who is their QB Michael Vick is a dog murderer. I think I might be the only person who has watched Falcon games the last six years because I feel like Im the only one who thinks Michael Vick sucks! Matt Schaub was clearly the best QB on that team, and from reports I hear the only reason he wasnt playing was because of the strong love of black athletes in the south. Wow good job Falcons, stupid and racist.

Who's Now

Ok, so has everyone seen the who's now thing that ESPN has been doing? It is pretty interesting, yet I have a big beef with ESPN over the one that is going on right now. Roger Federer is the no. 4 seed and is competing against Tony Parker, er (if your a Jim Rome listener you get this) Eva's husband, which is the only reason he is on the list. Ok if Tiger Woods warrants a no. 1 seed, shouldnt RFed receive one too. Roger Federer is the most dominant person in not only his sport, but the most in his sport than anyone person is in their sport. He is Michael Jordan. If past superstars such as Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, and John McEnroe say he is the greatest ever, then he is the greatest ever. If ESPN truely wants to do a who's now they should just debate who is the greatest player reguardless of sport in the world. Its either Tiger or RFed. So anyone what is your thought who is the greatest. I personally think Federer is. Although it is extremely difficult to break 80 in golf, Tiger dominates and I have nothing but respect for him, yet Federer dominates in a sport where you actually have to be an athlete. You have to be in shape and be able to actually run in tennis. You cant be a fat slob (Jason Gore) and acutally win in tennis. So my vote goes to Federer. After all he is the Michael Jordan of tennis. Johnny Mac said so.
